The Royals tied it up in the top of the 3rd on a Bobby Witt Jr. double – his 30th of the season – and, one out later, a Salvador Perez dribbler that was comically mishandled:

Kansas City tooks the lead in the 4th on a double by Maikel Garcia followed by a single by Kyle Isbel:

The Sox came back and tied it in the bottom of the fifth – though they should have scored more. Paul DeJong took first after being hit by a pitch by Alec Marsh, but was erased when Chuckie Robinson grounded into a double play. Then Nicky Lopez got hit by a pitch, Andrew Vaughn walked, and Luis Robert Jr. came through on a single to right.

In the bottom of the 6th, the Sox piled on and looked like they may actually end the losing streak as Andrew Benintendi doubled and Paul DeJong singled him in one batter later:

Andrew Vaughn added one more in the 7th on this monster 424-ft homerun to left-centerfield.

In the top of the 8th, the Royals woke up and realized they were about to be embarrassed by the worst team in Major League Baseball and decided to get to work on Steven Wilson.

After Salvador Perez led off the inning with a flyout, Kansas City went back-to-back to make it a 5-4 Sox lead:

After a Freddy Fermin popout for 2 outs, Maikel Garcia singled to right and Steve Wilson was replaced by John Brebbia. Wilson’s final line: 0.2 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 2 HR.

KC wasn’t done yet, though. Adam Frazier was hit by the 10th pitch in his at-bat and Michael Massey worked a full count walk to put men on first and second with 2 outs and Bobby Witt Jr. at the plate:

That blast would make it 8-5 Royals and that’s the way the score would stay, as the Sox couldn’t get a single baserunner in the 8th or 9th innings.
