Series Preview: Royals vs. White Sox

by | Jul 29, 2024

The Royals head to Guaranteed Rate Field on Monday for their last series against the White Sox.

The White Sox will attempt to win their first post-All-Star Break game tonight at Guaranteed Rate Field. The Pale Hose have tied the franchise-worst losing streak record of 14, achieved earlier this year.

Chris Flexen will pitch the opener for the Sox. The team is 0-14 in his last 14 starts. Drew Thorpe will pitch the last game of the series and try to be less like his last start against Seattle (0.2 IP, 6 H, K, 2 BB, 8 R) and more like his start at Kauffman Stadium (6.0 IP, 3 H 0 R, 2 BB, 5 SO).

The Royals are 57-49 and in 3rd place in the AL Central (6.5 games back) and tied for the second Wild Card spot. The Sox have only scored 12 runs in 10 games against the Royals this season and only 17 runs in these first 10 games after the All-Star Break – good for 1.7 runs per game.

Kansas City looks to be adding at the deadline, trading for starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen over the weekend, sending LHP Walter Pennington to the Texas Rangers.

Fun Fact

The White Sox are 1-9 against Kansas City this season. Not much of a “Fun Fact”.

Prediction

While the Royals are meddling along – 5-5 in their last 10 games – the White Sox are reeling and looking to break the franchise’s all-time losing streak record. I think they do that and more – KC sweeps.
