The White Sox have snapped their record-breaking losing streak, beating the A’s 5-1 and extiguishing any reason to watch the team play for the foreseeable future. In the end, they lost 21 games in a row, tying the AL record set by the 1988 Orioles and falling 2 games short of the 1961 Philies.

Jonathan Cannon took the mound for the Southsiders and didn’t have his best stuff, but it worked well enough against the hapless A’s. In the 1st inning, Cannon loaded the bases on a HBP, single, and a walk, but got out of the jam by inducing a flyout to Seth Brown.

In the bottom of the second, Cannon allowed a single to Zack Gelof and a walk, and escaped again when Lawrence Butler grounded into a doubleplay.

The Sox bats were fairly quiet until the 4th. Luis Robert Jr. singled to left and stole 2nd base, then Andrew Benintendi stepped in and touched ’em all.

Oakland cut the lead in half on a Zack Gelof homer in the bottom half of the inning.

Oakland’s Ross Stripling ran into some trouble in the 6th. After a walk and a single to lead off the inning, Andrew Vaugn stepped in with one out and punched a single to right-center making it 3-1, Sox. That would be the end of Stripling’s day, as Michel Otañez came on in relief and closed out the inning – after a wild pitch brought home Brooks Baldwin for a 4-1 lead.

The Sox tacked on an insurance run in the 9th when Lenyn Sosa singled home Benintendi for the final score of 5-1.

We haven’t seen a White Sox final score tweet with a picture for awhile, so here ya go:
